Women's Board - in collaboration with the United Nation's Information
Centre (UNIC), Lagos - celebrated the 2016 international day of families
at Wavecrest College on the 16th of May.The theme of this year's celebration was: Families; Healthy Lives and Sustainable Future.
Forty-six parents, guardians and relatives of the students of the
College were in attendance as well as NGOs invited to the event. On
behalf of the Provost, Ms. Nwabachili gave the opening address to
welcome all participants and introduced the college to them.
UN Secretary General's message and UNIC Director's address was delivered
by Mrs. Adeola Adediji, Head of Administration, UNIC. There were two
speakers for the event: Mrs. Ifeoma Igbokwe,CEO of Nutriville Services
who gave a presentation on Families: Children and Youth's Health and Well-Being.
The second speaker, Mr. Charles Aigbona is the Research Administrator
and Acting Executive Secretary of the Institute for Work and Family
Integration. He delivered a paper on Work-Family Balance and Health Outcomes.
the event was going on, a culinary competition was simultaneously
underway in the students' kitchen: three groups of three HND 1 students
each, were competing to prepare a three-course meal to serve a family of
six, made from locally-sourced fresh ingredients purchased within a
budget affordable to an average family. Ms. Bukky Arowosafe of Guava
Culinary Concepts Ltd. and Ms. Ngozi Uzoigwe were the judges. The
competition was a keen one and each group received prizes.
students showcased their talents in various ways. the Certificate in
Hospitality Operations students prepared pastries; the first-year
National Diploma students set up a buffet display; the second -year
National diploma students set up a cocktail bar and demonstrated the
preparation of cocktails while the second-year Higher National Diploma
students carved fruits to serve as decorative centre-pieces for the
Mrs. Edna Dafe, Director of Women's Board, thanked all the quests and students for their participation.
