Wavecrest College of Hospitality is one of the corporate works of Opus Dei founded by St. Josemaria Escriva who is celebrated every 26th of June. This year, the Founder's Day celebration took place on Friday, 24th June, 2016. It started off with a Holy Mass in honour of the founder.
There was a photo session afterwards of the different classes as well as the staff who had all come dressed in beautiful native attires. There were a couple of past students in attendance. The provost, Rosana Forsuelo welcomed everyone and gave a short speech on the reason for the celebration; enumerating a few things we can learn from the founder. This gave way to a video session where a short video on Opus Dei was shown alongside videos of other schools of hospitality; all corporate works of Opus Dei.
It was a double celebration as the Provost, was celebrating her birthday as well. There was a brief cutting of cake ceremony to that regards. The atmosphere was very festive.
As part of the events marking the Founder's day celebration, the Higher National Diploma class staged a symposium on Opus Dei and the founder. The grand finale was presentations from each class. Three members of staff were selected to judge their performances and winners were rewarded. There were presentations from the members of staff as well.
The master of ceremony, Mrs. Eboigbe thanked all for their participation. We look forward to another celebration next year.
